The following are our best places to watch an incredible sunset at Lake Tahoe.

Best South Lake Tahoe Sunset Spots

Where To Watch The Sunset In South Lake Tahoe?

If you are staying around South Lake Tahoe you are probably wondering where to find the best locations to watch the sunset from South Lake Tahoe.

Luckily there are plenty of public beaches to see the sunset from as well as two of the main Lake Tahoe sunset spots – Emerald Bay and Cave Rock.

1 | Sunset At Emerald Bay

One of our favorite Tahoe sunset places is by far Emerald Bay in South Lake Tahoe.

Emerald Bay sunsets and sunrises are among the most magical experiences you can have in Lake Tahoe. The play of light, colors and water reflection of the bay is just breathtaking. No words needed!

Emerald Bay Sunset Cruise

You can take your Emerald Bay sunset experience to the next level and watch the sunset directly from the water with these boat charters:

Popular spots to watch the sunset at South Lake Tahoe beaches are Lakeview Commons, Baldwin Beach, and Pope Beach. From there, the sun will set towards your left over the mountain range.

Another great option to see the sunset in Tahoe is from a lakefront hotel that has its own private beach like the Lakeshore Lodge And Spa right in South Lake Tahoe. We loved staying at the lakefront hotel and being able to watch the incredible sunrise from our balcony. In addition, there is a pier that you can walk out on and see the sunset from there too.

A spot not known much amongst tourists is this South Lake Tahoe sunset spot at the so-called “Party Rock”. Near Heavenly up on the mountain, you will have great views of the lake and the city of South Lake Tahoe.

4 | Cave Rock Lake Tahoe Sunset

Our second best place to watch the sunset in Lake Tahoe is also at an elevated location. Besides Emerald Bay Vista Point, Cave Rock is probably the most popular Lake Tahoe sunset spot.

Cave Rock is located on the southeast shore of Lake Tahoe and boasts incredible all-around views over the lake to the South, West, and North.

Best North Lake Tahoe Sunset Locations

Where To Watch The Sunset In North Lake Tahoe?

If you are staying in the North of Lake Tahoe you don’t need to make your way down all the way to South Lake Tahoe for sunset. There are also beautiful sunset spots in North Lake Tahoe, especially along the rocky Northeastern shore around Sand Harbor and Incline Village.

5 | Sunset Sand Harbor Lake Tahoe

On the Northeastern shore, you directly face the sunset from Sand Harbor Lake Tahoe. We found a great place to hang our hammock and love this North Lake Tahoe sunset spot to just hang out to chill and enjoy the warm sun hitting our faces while the day slowly draws to a close.

Sand Harbor is a Nevada state park and is open until 1 hour after sunset.

The entry fee to the state park is 15 USD for non-Nevada residents and 10 USD for NV residents. To make the most out of it, maybe you want to spend the day at Sand Harbor Beach and explore the beautiful rocky landscape and crystal clear water of Lake Tahoe on a paddleboard or kayak. Both can be rented at Sand Harbor Beach directly or you can launch your own SUP.

6 | Sunset At Bonsai Rock North East Tahoe

A little further down the rocky shore, you will find the iconic Bonsai Rock. Photographing Bonsai Rock at sunset is a popular Tahoe photo spot among photographers and laymen alike.

To access the Bonsai Rock sunset spot you will need to park your car along the highway (please only park in non-restricted areas) and walk down a steep and narrow path.

7 | Best Sunset Incline Village

Last but not least our final Lake Tahoe sunset location in Incline Village. The shore at Incline Village is mostly closed off by residential homes or gated communities. However, from Incline Beach you get a chance to access the water and see the sunset.

What makes this North Lake Tahoe sunset location special, is the tree-lined beach that creates this cool silhouette with a fiery red sky in the background.

Incline Beach is a private beach that charges a fee. The good thing is, that for sunset there is no one charging you anymore.
